I liked: The intimacy of the performer (Bruce Forman) with the audience as he told his personal stories; the stories set to the soundtrack of Bruce’s jazz guitar licks; how Bruce (sometimes) paced the cadence of his words with the rhythm of the songs he played; the simplicity of the setting, letting the performance speak for itself.
What I didn't like
The theatre venue is in a noisy part of town, and sometimes the traffic noise outside the window competed with the performance. I noticed this with another HFF show I saw in this same theatre. It appears to be a consistent problem.
My overall impression
I love that “The Red Guitar” combines two art forms—jazz and storytelling—in an entertaining way; kind of like Will Rogers meets George Benson, all rolled up into one performer.
