I heard this show was fantastic and sold out in earlier Fringes, and I was not disappointed at all. Zehra Fazal delivers a wonderfully conducted bumpy journey through her Muslim upbringing through song and just the right mix of props, lazzi, and pure entertainment. She treats delicate subjects lightly enough but with sincere emotional foundation, which lends itself beautifully to the cultural questions exposed in her story. 4 more shows and I seriously suggest that everyone see it before she leaves LA.... full review

I went along as part of a group of 5 not knowing what to expect from this show and was delighted to find an engaging, funny and intelligent performance. Zehra Fazal is enchanting as Zed Headscarf, a young woman invited to give weekly lectures at the Islamic Women's Centre the topics of which range from family pressures to an uncomfortable trip to the gynaecologist. I particularly liked the structure of the show which allowed Fazal to move seamlessly from one subject to another. Stunning, on every level. It's the very rare performer who has the talent, courage, and vehicle to transform an audience through laughter. This is one. Having had a number of Muslim students (most of them, superb) in my college classes, I thought I was somewhat prepared for this. I was not. Fazal has an uncanny ability to make us laugh about the things which matter most to us --- who we "are," what we believe, how we express, and what we express publicly. Her fluid physicality is both arresting and unexpected, leading us to challenge any notions of the retiring Muslim female. Because of said personal preference, and the quality, this show was my favorite of the festival thus far. And did not theatre and religion begin as One in a beautiful celebration of life? I approached Zehra Fazal after the show, at Bryan's Bar, to compliment her and tell her how much I loved her show. I met Zehra Fazal at the opening night party at fringe central. We also have our shows playing at the same theatre. Last Saturday we went up at the same exact start time. Zehra at the Asylum & I at the Asylum Lab. I bumped into her in the hall sitting quietly to herself. I bring this up because Zehra is my favorite kind of performer. Both encounters with this nice young lady I found her sweet, soft spoken, humble & even a bit shy. Just a very kind person who kindly wants to share her art…..
