Loved this original work! What appears to be about "frivolous" fashion on the surface actually digs into the history of The Dress, its place in our society, and how a simple piece of fabric can change how we women feel about ourselves and our perceived desirability. It also delves into how we sometimes discard facets of ourselves to become new people; i.e. trying on new personas when we try on new dresses and discarding old personas with our old clothing. Extremely clever, witty, fun and brave (she wears an amazing undergarment through much of the show). Terrific songs. The dresses Brenda had in her closet but never wore are so great. What I loved about the show is that it was not just the obvious statement about how being a slave to fashion is superficial, but it goes deeper into the meaning of self. Loved it.
