My overall impression

I went into “Inside the Mind of Me” not knowing what to expect, and ended up absolutely adoring it. It delves into some heady subjects – fear, depression, hope, love, loss, hurt – but despite this it’s a play which elicited a variety of reactions.

I hate it when a review essentially boils down to “I laughed, I cried,” but I absolutely did. There are times when this play is lighthearted and whimsical, times when it’s outright hilarious, and times when it tugs at the heartstrings. The shift in tone never feels inconsistent or misplaced, and it’s a testament to the cast and to the director that the play is able to shift through so many different moods while still retaining the same core at the heart of it.

I was talking to friends after the show finished, and I realized that the play put me in the same frame of mind that the film “Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind” does – the way it plays with the narrative timeline and the way it sets about establishing a particular mood reminds me of the movie. I’m not suggesting it’s an imitation or a copy – far from it. “Eternal Sunshine” is great company for “Inside the Mind of Me”.

I can’t recommend this play enough. If you can, get in an see it before it closes. Thoroughly enjoyable.
