This is easily the funniest hour I've enjoyed in recent memory. Whether someone is a great fan of Sacred Fools, a regular victim of terrible writing, or simply looking to take in a delightfully executed and hilarious piece of theater, Magnum Opus is a great way to spend an afternoon or evening at the Fringe. It's a great showcase for come brilliant comedic actors, and a wonderful show to see with a group of friends.... full review

If you have ever written a screenplay (or at least know the rules), then this show is for you. They say it upfront - word for word, they didn't change a thing. Bad stage directions, misspelled words, stilted dialogue - this show is a delight. I brought my girlfriend and my daughter and we all laughed the whole way through. Brilliant!... full review

I have to apologize to the cast in this show. I hope I wasn't keeping them from their post performance plans due to all the laughing I was doing. I feel bad, if say, they all had sickly aunts to visit and I wouldn't let them get on with their lines due to the riotous laughter I was exuding. It's fun. And funny. And I'm pretty sure I wet myself at some point.... full review

Must See Theatre. For anyone who works in the film "biz" or watches film or who know knows someone who works in film or watches film. Absolutely THE BEST THING EVER. I don't know how many times my jaw hit the floor or my brain would explode from sheet "WTF-ness". Fabulous. Get thee to Magnum Opus! ... full review

This is one of those rare shows. A lot of comedy spoofing "bad art" can come off as smirking. Especially in Los Angeles. Magnum Opus Theatre elevates writing that at first glance should be placed far, far away. By presenting this material as is, with excellent actors, the audience ends up loving these characters and their, um, unique voices. The audience may start laughing at the incredibly unfortunate train wreck they are witnessing, but they truly end up rooting for Amber and her dreams of love with what I guess is a dead movie star. Or a hallucination? I dunno and I don't care!... full review

The only thing you need to know is that this is an actual (bad) screenplay that got submitted to a real Hollywood producer. The Magnum Opus players always do a fantastic job no matter which funky script they're skewering. They have single-handedly raised the slush-pile cast off to an art form. Having seen Magnum Opus many times over much of my amusement comes from observing new audiences react to what they're seeing. The shock and awe they express while witnessing these talented thespians bringing to life EXACTLY WHAT IS ON THE PAGE never gets old for me. At the show last Saturday people were unable to contain themselves and more than once blurted an incredulous "WHAT?!?" at the stage. ... full review

There's certainly no shortage of poorly-written screenplays in this town! And if they're not exactly paid homage, at least one scribbler's doomed pages are seeing a light other than that of an agency basement incinerator. In "Star-Crossed Love," The Magnum Opus Players skillfully enact every formulaic deficit of a story so painfully lowbrow, staying true to its unedited artlessness and literal stage direction... and the result is ABSOLUTELY HILARIOUS!!! Only some of THE BEST actors in LA could take such crap and make it uproarious masterpiece theater. The audience receives a warning that it's OK TO LAUGH, assuming that for the first 10 seconds, it might misconstrue this as a novice ensemble. Trust me -- the heads-up's unnecessary, because fr... full review

This was at least the 3rd time I've seen the Magnum Opus opus 'Star-Crossed Lovers', and yet I laughed uproariously as if I were still a fresh-faced Magnum Virgin. This long-running series is one of my favorites in L.A., and it doesn't really matter which screenplay they do or which cast members are around -- Thursty is the ultimate ringleader and brings the unmatchable Magnum Magic every single goddamn time! ... full review
