I knew a brief history of Double Play and was interested to see if it still held up all these years later…it does (and does wonderfully)! The acting, though energetic, wasn't over-the-top and was brimming with nuance. The direction made the most of every clever line, made the most of the modest theater space and allowed the characters to make the most of their considerable talents without resorting to sitcom-ish schtick. Something a lesser director could fall trap to.
But the real star of the play is the play itself. There aren't enough "Double Plays" in the world. But at least for one night at the Hollywood Fringe, I got to see a walk-off home run! THIS IS A MUST SEE!!!...

I thoroughly enjoyed the show, Double Play last night. The characters were interesting and fun to watch. The premise was funny and the dialogue was fast paced. I am not really a sports fan, but it got me thinking about why we do love our sports teams and sporting events. I didn't want it to end!...

Meticulous and copious dialogue, well delivered by great actors; and a story I'd love to learn the end of. You don't need to be a baseball fan to like this play (although it may help); and you don't need to like the Yankees (I hate them) - but there is a good chance you also will start rooting for the characters on stage....

Take me out to the theater! Double Play is delightful. This witty comedy clips along at the pace of a fluttering heart not sure if it's going to take flight or fight for love. Don't let the baseball theme fool you. Sports fans and sports skeptics (like me) will find Double Play an enjoyable and touching ride. Terrific writing and a charming cast. I can't wait to see Act Two!...
