This is a funny show built out of a series of skits going in chronological from Shakespeare to the current era, for the most part satirizing the trials and tribulations of the creative class (writers and/or actors). The relatively large cast are all talented and move from scene to scene with energy and aplomb. All get their moment to shine in one skit or another. The humor is often derived from juxtaposing modern practices with a past era. So Shakespeare has to deal with a focus group and Walt Whitman with spit-balling book agents. So really the satire isn't of Shakespeare or Edgar Allen Poe but really using the greats to indirectly show the idiocy of the modern movie business. However the two most original, and to me the best of the... full review

Fast-paced and well timed at under an hour. Some pretty hilarious dialogue and acerbic wit - both of which hit my sweet spot. I saw it opening night (day) and have a feeling that like a fine wine this will get better with age (each subsequent performance).... full review

Delightful! Pat brought to life clever literature satire and references through quick comedic timing and writing. As a literature fan I thought Pat did a brilliant job with his research not only of the works of literature themselves, but also incorporating a historic study of legendary authors, their personalities, quirks, vices and successfully bringing it all together to create a one of a kind experience. I also loved the take on school politics between per-pubescent girls and what they are willing to do for a good friend. A delightful way to spend the afternoon! xoxo!... full review

Good, funny, clever... words I'd use to describe the writing/direction. Match that with some spot on performances and you have a terrific show. Los Angeles/Hollywood is full of talented folks and plays like this prove it.... full review

This was a very enjoyable show, though the writing was uneven at points. The first of the five (?) acts was one of the weaker, and I'm glad it wasn't indicative of the entire show. The second act was much stronger (I loved the fast paced banter), and that trend continued through the rest of the performance. And frankly, even when I thought the writing wasn't necessarily up to snuff, the actors were, pulling out laughs on charm and chemistry alone. And when the writing was on par with the actors it made for some VERY funny theatre. ... full review

I especially loved the writing in the first two scenes. Nathan Kershaw was hysterical. The collision of the Shakespearen world with Mad Men copywriting tweaks is a fantastic idea. ... full review

I love a good Hollywood satire and Patrick Mulvihill’s “History of the Biz” is as funny as I’ve seen. Equal parts “The Simpsons,” “The Player” and Mel Brooks’s “History of the World” this new play is clever, fast-paced, and so sharp that I would gladly sit through another hour. It’s filled with songs, jokes, and a broad spectrum of references – I may have been the only person in the audience laughing at the Ben Johnson joke. The cast is superb as they dance, sing and channel Shakespeare, David Mamet and even Andrew Lloyd Weber. That’s entertainment!... full review

I didn't know much about the play going into it, but I was intrigued by the premise. The writing was excellent and the cast was stellar, with many of the actors playing multiple roles and even singing. The cleverness of the script did a great job or getting the message across without ever coming across as heavy handed, and the message was one that most people in this town can relate to. Although the idea of someone's creative vision being diluted by focus groups and producers isn't exclusive to Hollywood, it's as analogous to this town as septuagenarians dating 20 year olds with credit card debts and big dreams. Great play highly recommended!... full review
