My overall impression

The shorts, the feature… what varied evenings of indie flicks. The comedies made me laugh. The sci-fi thriller pulled me in. Performances: AMAZING. The sweet one about a goldfish made me cry and then sigh with contentment. The drama about an amnesiac made me… mouth along. Because that was me. Playing the amnesiac. How can I not mention my own performance? I also love the western stand-off sound effects. Can’t get enough of those.

The feature, Way Down in Chinatown, reminded me that film is art. Of course it always is, but for the most part, I focus on the craft of storytelling via film. Here, EMK uses time like a canvas. Reminiscent of Jackson Pollack. Sometimes art evokes mood rather than tells linear story. There was story, but it lies secondary to the movie’s evoking a mood: a kind of dismal confusion with just a spattering of hope and love.

Their Tag Line “Have an Opinion” is, I think, the wrong way to go about it. It seems to ask you to decide whether it’s good or bad. Don’t. It’s not good or bad. It’s not about the technicalities of story-telling. Some people made art together. Here it is. Look at it, look at them. It’s a series of images. And you are free to take them in.
