My overall impression

This show is a wonderful experience. The music, lyrics and story are very smart, funny and toe-tapping. Each of the actors did a fine job re-creating what we know about these icons of TV.

If I were to criticize anything about this show, though, it would be this. I thought that the children were under-used, obnoxious and I felt they were more like props than characters. There was one song, “Don’t you dare” which felt to me as a bit of a “jumping the shark” moment. I felt it slowed down the momentum. Similarly, the “Crazy Bird” number seemed to go on a bit too long and I felt “Consuela” was underused.

In praise I couldn’t help but included the characterization of “Mrs. Garrett.” I wanted MORE. The song, words and performance were side-splitting. Equally the Lurch/Rosey duet was a show-stopper.

The positive really outweighs anything truly negative. Real Housekeepers of Studio city is truly funny, smart and worth spending quality time with.
