Bold, innovative, full of life, funny! Taught me a lot about a religion/culture I know nothing about…I am a Buddhist. I cannot imagine human beings having to suppress and hide their true feelings and deep love. THOROUGHLY enjoyed the extraordinary actors. ...

I was immediately drawn into the vivid and delicious writing from Emmy Weismann and invested in the changing lives of Aviva and Chava. What makes this play so special is that we are given an insight into the Mikvah (Orthodox Judaism) world, which is usually private. We as the audience are given a beautiful opportunity to witness the inner thoughts and workings of a friendship on the brink of morphing.
This play is not only witty and hilarious it is disturbing and eloquent. Emmy leaves nothing to be wondered about and lets us know that these two girls' entire lives are forever changed when they enter marriages they are not ready for. Emmy tackles sexual deprivation, domestic violence, the love that exists in female friendships, and one's ...

A standout piece of contemporary theater, "Mikvah Girls" offers a fresh and insightful exploration of the interplay between religion, sexuality, identity, and desire. The playwright masterfully weaves together the sacred and the profane, creating a narrative that is both deeply personal and universally relatable.
This complex and comedic take on modern-day sexual liberation, and the experiences and expectations of the average Orthodox Jewish woman, is brilliantly executed by actors Maya Knell and Sofia JoAnna, who bring Aviva and Chava to life with authenticity and charm. Their chemistry is palpable, making their interactions both hilarious and poignant.
"Mikvah Girls" is a must-see production that promises to leave audiences laughing,...

Though vaguely familiar with the concept of Mikvah - I considered it a shibboleth that was a quirk of a culture - but - YIKES - was this a powerful discovery of what women experience since the beginning of time. Finding humor and sisterhood and pathos and hope and understanding felt like a tour of existence rather than just an isolated two-hander between best friends. This was really highlighted by some deft acting by their initial antagonist. Modern (and hip?) young, Jewish women obsessing over Bruce Springsteen provided a further sense of timelessness, Jewish identity mixed with greater cultural integration and alienation.
Maya and Sofia were delightful as fleshed-out peas in a pod and Rachel (playing Rachel) really did thoughtful work a...

Heartfelt, and at times uncomfortable in the best way, Mikvah Girls is a provoking piece of theatre that applies to all generations. While its context and characters are very Jewish, the themes of love, fear, repressed sexuality and the complications of growing up in a closed community are widely accessible....
