STRANDED

The world premiere of STRANDED, inspired by a selection of writings and journals of SYLVIA PLATH and MARILYN MONROE, takes a deep look inside two great minds to untangle love, loss, and our inevitable desire for connection!

STRANDED unwittingly discovers how we cope with abuse, abandonment, and the uncomfortable decision of whether or not to bring a child into a dangerous and incapable world.

Mixed mediums are also explored in STRANDED. There is a painting that is vitally central to the piece which both Fiona and Kimberly, at some point during the play, add to. This means that it will change, just as they will, from night to night.

“There is something very haunting about both of these women who, each in their own way, hid behind a public mask, and only through their writing were they able to release some of their darkest demons.” says Fiona.

So we start asking these questions: “Did these demons inevitably lead to their suicides?” “Does death of choice lead to a different place than death of natural cause?” “If this is the case, then what is this “middle distance” when your body dies, but your heart and soul aren’t ready to go?” “And how, once separated, can we move on from it?”

Drowned by grief and guilt, fighting against that enveloping darkness, and relying solely on our innocence to keep us afloat; when the reality of our lives becomes too much to bear, our imagination will take hold to defend our very existence.

Sexual Abuse is a main theme in STRANDED, and predators come in all different shapes and sizes, young and old, and these victims who are stuck in, or have experienced abusive situations, are most often either in denial of the abuse, don’t know how to get out of it, or are too afraid to try.

With STRANDED our goal is speak for these victims and to raise awareness of Sexual Abuse and it’s affects on Mental Health.
