CATAMITUS
Love Slave to God

Brynn Sillyman is proud to present her debut production, CATAMITUS: Love Slave to God, in its world premiere at the 2012 Hollywood Fringe Festival, June 9th-23rd. It is an ambitious play incorporating many traditional and non traditional theatrical elements- even a Dionysian party.

The theme of CATAMITUS is that of the title character: The horrific ascent to spiritual perfection. Ben, the main character, lives in the modern age: the degenerate Kali Yuga- the Age of Pisces- the time of instantaneous technological transmission of the steady beat of violence in the world. A traditional and yet modernized Greek Chorus comprises the rest of the cast, to come in and out of Ben’s life from his birth in 1986 to now, 2012. There, Ben experiences a transition, a revelation into the Age of Aquarius. He explores what the end of the world really means in eternal time- to himself, to the audience, and to the world.

Emmy-winning producer/actor Dale Reynolds (The Cris Franco Show, Highway to Heaven etc.) calls the script “brilliant”. Emmy nominated editor/director Michael R. Miller (Raising Arizona, Strangers with Candy, numerous music videos) can’t wait to see it, calling it “awesome”. Armando Molina, Artistic Director of Company of Angels, said to Brynn after hearing a portion, “I don’t go to church. But if you had a church, I’d go.” Crew and cast say it’s “deep”, and a play that speaks for Generation Y. “It’s a naked, vulnerable story of my parallel life, a lateral series of events: some the same as mine, some unique to Ben. It is a diary and therapy externalized into the character of Ben, but also a story I know I need to give to the world,” says Brynn Sillyman, who has been writing about Ben for the past 12 years.

Cast includes: Will McMichael, Steve J. Palmer, Kathryn Mayer, Meg Duell, Sam Gurnick, Alex Elliott-Funk, Sabrina Lloyd, Matt Valle, and Brynn Sillyman
