“This Vicious Minute”, a penetrating look at self-injury, to be presented at this year’s Hollywood Fringe Festival

Los Angeles, CA, May 9, 2012 – Cutting – it’s not just for “emo” kids. “This Vicious Minute”, a one-man play written and performed by Northern California theatre artist Ben Moroski, is the powerfully raw, autobiographical story of his ongoing battle with self-injury. The play will receive its world premiere at the 2012 Hollywood Fringe Festival in June.

This jarringly personal journey through the psyche of the unlikeliest of “cutters” – an All-American male – breaks down commonly held misconceptions and speaks with honesty about a disturbing subject that few understand or take the time to address.

Do a Google search for “cutting” or “self-injury” or “self-harm.” The results are thin at best. There may be a few news stories. The most recent are probably about online blogging sites like Tumblr and Instagram banning content promoting self-harm. There are statistics, blogs and some support forums out there too.

But where is the honest truth about self-injury?

“This Vicious Minute” is one man’s attempt to find it and lay it bare for the world to see. It is an achingly personal journey through a life plagued by an addiction that is too often shrouded in mystery, misunderstanding and shame. It is a journey about finding the strength to live the only minute we have – this present, this precious, this vicious minute.

Performances will be in the Elephant Studio Theatre at Elephant Stages, 6322 Santa Monica Blvd., Los Angeles, CA 90038. The show will preview on June 11 at 9:00 PM and June 12 at 10:30 PM. It will open on June 17 at 12:00 PM and will run June 18 at 9:00 PM, June 19 at 10:30 PM and will close with a final performance in the Elephant’s Lillian Theatre on June 24 at 4:00 PM. ABOUT BEN MOROSKI
A writer/performer hailing from Northern California, Ben has written four full-length plays, including “This Vicious Minute”, as well as various shorter works. He received a Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts Award for Outstanding Contribution in the Area of Playwriting while earning his bachelor’s degree in English from the University of California, Davis. Ben was a member of the acting apprentice company at the 2009 Williamstown Theatre Festival. He has acted in many plays with various Northern California theatre companies including Resurrection Theatre, KOLT Run Creations and Murphys Creek Theatre.
