In YELLOW DRESS, two young orphans are abandoned at a run down Orphanage in the heart of Seoul. Through the power of dreams bestowed by an angelic grandmother, the children make their way to America. America not only teaches them about McDonalds and Michael Jackson, the heroine struggles with her identity as a twinkie (Yellow on the outside white on the inside). Marissa Lichwick portrays over twenty characters in this zany and magical story. Based on true life events the audience is taken for an entertaining ride from the streets of Seoul to a family of ten (five Korean adoptees and five American) in upstate New York.

ABOUT THE PRODUCTION

“The classic coming of age story is not a new one, but the unique manner in which Marissa Lichwick came to become an American and an artist are what makes her one woman show YELLOW DRESS a unique theatrical experience. From her beginnings in an orphanage in Korea to her adoption by an American family, Marissa weaves performance and autobiography into a tapestry of fantasy, humor, pathos and personal growth that delivers a powerful human experience for the audience. Crafted with courage and theatrical panache, YELLOW DRESS is nothing short of inspirational.”

“Marissa Lichwick’s kaleidoscopic one girl/one woman tale—peopled with Korean and American “saints and sinners”—turns you on your head. Just when you are about to curse humanity, the wisp of a girl who wears the yellow dress scoops you up and twirls you in another direction—into a world of shining, ever-finding-the-laugh resilience. My world is different after seeing this finely-crafted beautifully acted play— a “yellow dress” lurks around every corner"

" In December 2006, I received a letter from my birth father after twenty one years of living in America. Three months later in February 2007, I embarked on a journey to my past. I will never fully understand my trajectory in Korea, returning as an Ebyoung (adoptee) but I was fortunate to reunite with my birth mother, birth father, birth aunts and uncles. I walked away a year later with a lifetime of stories and emotions. YELLOW DRESS was born from my visit and with the inspiration from my adoptive family."
