“Increible escuchar las madres decir la verdad sobre sus viajes” – Audience Review [Translation] “Incredible to hear these mothers tell the truth about their journeys” (Workshop, 2020)

Caminos : A Mother’s Journey is an emotional documentary theatre one-act play that recounts the true stories of six immigrant mothers as they face the dangers of crossing the Southern Border into the US, the harsh reality of the legal system, and the everyday struggles of being an immigrant in Los Angeles. The play begins with Estrella, a first generation college student and journalism/music major, as she is packing to go to college. She is overcome with emotion as she realizes she is moving away from her home without ever having embraced her own culture. Her mom’s “comadres” are there to send her away and she seizes the opportunity to learn about their stories. One by one , they tell Estrella about their journeys to the US. All of their stories are derived from interviews that ensemble members conducted with their own mothers.
