Kiddnapping! McDonalds! Boyfriends made of shirts! Safe wigs! Dangerous Wigs! Might they escape him tonight???

Millions of Maps Productions is proud to present WIGS as part of the 2017 Hollywood Fringe Festival. WIGS is an original piece of theater created by acclaimed actresses Lindsay Beamish (best known as Severin in John Cameron Mitchell’s seminal film “Shortbus”) and Amanda Vitiello (most recently seen on the Edinburgh stage in hits “Dogs of War” and “Plastic Rose.”) WIGS was created with the support of The Institute for Exploration in Theatre, Dance, and Performance at the University of California Davis, and is making its Los Angeles debut at Hollywood Fringe 2017!

WIGS is a 50-minute original piece about two preteen girls who have been captured and locked in a small room for many years. They are commanded and controlled by an unseen man who hides behind a curtain of bed sheets, and who instructs the girls to perform a series of trained acts and unfamiliar ceremonies. The girls communicate with the man who captured them via invented ritual and coded discourse, and communicate with each other via a semi-private language that developed out of their captivity, and through which they have been planning and practicing their escape for many years. As a coping mechanism, the girls develop anthropomorphized relationships with the few tangible things that exist in their room, including their own t-shirts which are they transform into boyfriends, and with wigs the man requires to them to wear. The two actresses who play the captured girls also play the man who controls them. Will they survive their escape tonight??

Regina Robbins at Theatre is Easy says, “Wigs is proof that actor-driven devised work can yield superb results. It is focused and totally absorbing… Beamish and Vitiello are completely convincing in their difficult roles; it’s hard to imagine there are better performances being given in the Fringe this year.”

As an actress Lindsay Beamish is best known for John Cameron Mitchell’s film “Shortbus,” Miranda July’s seminal film “Nest of Tens,” the role of Carry Mulligan’s best friend in the film “The Greatest” starring Pierce Brosnan and Susan Sarandon, and was most recently seen in the film “Forgetting the Girl” for which her performance received notable reviews in The New York Times and Variety. Her dance company, The Leg and Pants Dans Theeatre, has toured the US with acclaimed band Deerhoof, and performed at such venues/events as The Knitting Factory (NYC and LA), the Bowery Ballroom, Ladyfest San Francisco, and Arthur Ball Los Angeles.

Amanda Vitiello’s credits include Rose of Sharon in The Grapes of Wrath (Shields Theater), Kitty in Anna Karenina and Thea in Hedda Gabler (Chrysalis Stage), Veronica in Chicago and Consuelo in West Side Story (Musical Theatre Los Angeles), and Rosannah in Brilliant Traces (Front Porch Players). Her original film ‘Heaven Blossom’ was the recipient of the 2015 Audience Award for Bagavagabond’s 5for50 Film Festival. She is currently a series regular on the comedy web series, ‘The LAURA Show’.
