“YOU” an original, one-of-a-kind production, premieres Saturday, June 4, 2016, at this year’s Hollywood Fringe Festival. What is “YOU” you may ask? It is an “in your face” one-act, original play about the digital age and gratitude. Thirteen actors, writers, and musicians take the stage—at the same time—sharing their stories— in a moving, heartfelt, fast-paced, and funny way—woven together as a tapestry of life.

Gratitude does not mean a short text TY in “YOU”—it means looking someone straight in the face and offering a (sometimes long overdue) “Thank you.” No need to use your phone or laptop or computer—what if you actually had the opportunity to tell someone how they changed your life—in person and communicating aloud? “YOU” is real talk for real people—without the need for a screen.

“YOU” begins as the actors actually dare to put down their devices and speak as people speak, communicating simply as human beings, without the need to reference anything more than their emotions. Quite a concept in our digital age. These days, who wants to get “all mushy” when everyone who knows and loves us “understands.” Or do they? “YOU” answers that question.

We all have someone we’d like to thank—perhaps you will recall someone you want to thank while watching “YOU” as the actors share their individual tale of gratitude and the reasons for it. The effect is subtle and profound, as artists connect with individuals in the audience. No text messages, no emoji, no abbreviations for the experience of life. If you are lucky enough to be one of the people the actors talk directly to, it is an even more wonderful experience.

Presented by the Lake Arrowhead Repertory Theatre Company and Foley-Marra Casting, “YOU” is directed by the award winning team of Chuck Marra and Megan Foley Marra.
