YOU. OPENING AT HOLLYWOOD FRINGE FESTIVAL

YOU. has been EXTENDED!

“YOU”, an “in YOUR face” one-act, original play about the digital age and gratitude
premieres at the 2016 Hollywood Fringe Festival. Presented by the Lake Arrowhead
Repertory Theatre Company and Foley-Marra Casting, “YOU” is directed by the award
winning team of Chuck Marra and Megan Foley Marra. It stars 13 actors, writers, and
musicians.
“YOU” interweaves personal stories, with songs of gratitude and love in a lively,
humorous, moving, fast-paced, short play while reminding us how brave it is to look at
someone and express our thanks for the changes—big and small—that they’ve brought
to our lives.
Imagine this—the play opens with actors lit by their devices: cell phones, tablets, and
computers. Without a grand set, “YOU” begins with human beings who actually dare to
put down their devices and speak as people speak, communicating simply as human
beings without the need to reference anything more than their emotions. Quite a
concept in our digital age.
So often, we sit in a room full of people, lit by the light of our electronic devices,
communicating with people who aren’t there with us. Although we often text people our
appreciation IRL short hand, acronyms, and emoji, life passes quickly—so for less than
an hour, what if we just sat down specifically to tell someone, in real words, how they
transformed our lives? These days, who wants to get “all mushy” when everyone who
knows and loves us “understands.” Or do they? “YOU” answers that question.
“YOU” lets the audience actually listen and absorb each actor’s gratitude and the
reasons for it. The effect is subtle and profound, as artists connect with individuals in
the audience. No text messages, no emoji, no abbreviations for the experience of life.
If you are lucky enough to be one of the people the actors talk directly to, it is an even
more wonderful experience.
“YOU”, opens Saturday, June 4 and runs June 10, 16, 18, and 25 at Actors Company,
