FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:

“Lightbringers” Aurora and Larry come to Hollywood Fringe 2016!

World Premiere solo show from acclaimed artist Jennifer Kenyon follows the lives of two kids raised in a hippy commune and how that foundation leads to a mid-life reckoning.

LOS ANGELES – Artist Jennifer Kenyon scored big at last year’s Hollywood Fringe with her solo show The Last Known Recording of the Lovely Lenore Sisters, earning praise (and an Encore Award) for offering something more than the stereotypical autobiography on stage, but rather a full play with intrigue, suspense, well developed characters, and original music. So she knew her follow up had to be something special.

As such, she is proud to present her next solo show, Aurora and Larry, making its World Premiere at the Lounge Theater as part of the 2016 Hollywood Fringe Festival.

Raised in a 1970s hippie commune, Aurora and Polaris were instilled with a mission to be “lightbringers” for this corner of the Milky Way. But darkness calls to Polaris (now Larry) who struggles with chronic PTSD after serving in Operation Desert Storm. Flaky Aurora might be his only chance against a collapsing black hole of depression…if the space aliens don’t get him first.

“This show hits on a number of thematic touchstones, including identity versus family ties, war, alienation, loneliness and the healing power of music,” Kenyon said. “The piece touches on the counter-culture movements that inspired social changes that we are still grappling with today, but addresses the political in terms of personal relationships.”

Kenyon is a Los Angeles based performer/playwright who has been on stage in theatre, improv and other live events, and she is very recognizable from a few popular TV commercials. She is a graduate of iO’s Improv program, a member of Sock Puppet Sitcom Theatre, a member of Los Angeles Writers Center and an associate member of Sacred Fools Theatre Company. She is delighted to be working again with Director Amanda Weier, who has a decade plus of credits as a director, actor and writer in L.A. theatre. Together, the two of them have put together a work that is very different than most solo shows.

“Aside from the fact that I am playing a couple of different characters, it’s also a bit of a history lesson with music and a little dance,” Kenyon said. “This production is a complete play by performed by one person.”

Just like with Lovely Lenore Sisters, Kenyon is hoping audiences walk out with something different from her show, something special.

“I always hope my shows leave audience members inspired to reach out to and connect with loved ones,” she said. “And if this show inspires anyone to take a belly dance class, that would be cool too!”
