For Immediate Release – 5/25/2015

This locally well-known singer/songwriter returns the Gardenia. Although his voice has been compared to Kurt Reichenbach, Kurt Elling, and Michael Franks, he counts James Taylor, Carole King, Billy Joel, Elton John, Mel Tormé, and Harry Connick, Jr. among his musical influences, and possesses a special affection for bossa nova and the sounds of Brazil. His CD, Cry By the Light of the Moon, contains inventive arrangements of classic and modern standards as well as his own original songs created over the years, with lyrics that continue the traditions of the great story-teller songwriters like Harry Chapin and James Taylor, including his very first song: “Tell Me That I’m a Fool,” written while he was still in high school.

“If you like James Taylor or Carole King you’ll love Steve Brock. His soothing voice takes your troubles away. What I like most is he does his own arrangements which incorporate his own style and breaths new life into old classics.”

“I like the hesitant, vulnerable, natural tone in your voice, which matches well with the piano. You definitely have a distinct persona. Reminds me of a blend of my own childhood musical influences, including Michael Franks, Stephen Bishop. Song is very Top 40 and standard at once. I’m picking up, if you’re focusing on soul of song, what it means to you, rather than keeping on top of chorus notes, better. Your tone is naturally warm, vulnerable, attractive, fragile. Reminded of Kurt Reichenbach and Roby Duke. Listen to Roby Duke’s rendition of Ray Charles, “You Don’t Know Me.” Read my description Nick Manson does his own romantic twist on Ray Charles standards. That’s you. As a lay listener, you’re the kind of singer who can make us fall in love with/protect you and want to prove the world wrong”

“OH I LOVE THE NEW SONG!!! (Make You Feel My Love) It is so cute! And by cute, I mean manly. It sounds like the love child of James Taylor, Kurt Elling and Michael Franks. Well done. Oh, I am in such a happy mood now.” – ”
