Pachyderm Productions in association with Theatre Asylum is proud to announce the return, for six performances in May, of “Man’s Dominion”, the 2014 Hollywood Fringe favorite and twice-extended Producers’ Award Series one-person show about the lynching of Mary the circus elephant in 1916.

“Man’s Dominion” is a true story straight out of history; Mary its victim a symbol of nature held captive; and the entire tale an allegory of the dark heart beating under the thin skin of Norman Rockwell’s small-town America. Last year it was Ferguson, Missouri. This year it is North Charleston, South Carolina. Ninety-nine years ago it was Erwin, Tennessee.

Pachyderm Productions strives to bring socially relevant and socially conscious theatre to audiences in a provocative and entertaining fashion. Our aim, our mission, is to bring voice to the voiceless. To that end, “Man’s Dominion”, a one-person show told through 19-interlocking monologues tells its story through the characters and voices of circus workers, townspeople, and even Mary herself, as she finally, nearly a century later gets to give her version of what happened back in September 1916.

The creative team at Pachyderm Productions has worked at telling stories for over a century in combined experience.
“Man’s Dominion” was written for the singular talents of actor Tim Powell, a 30-year veteran of stage, film and TV (Tennessee Rep, “Revenge”, “Nashville”). The show is directed by Dennis Neal, a Los Angeles acting teacher and coach of major import and as an actor, the originator of the title role of Louis Armstrong in the play “Satchmo at the Waldorf.” “Man’s Dominion” was written by David Castro, an Emmy and Ace award nominated writer with over 20 years as a writer-producer of major broadcast TV (“Married with Children”, “Not Necessarily the News”) now writing for the intimacy and impact of live theatre.

Each performance of “Man’s Dominion” has an audience talkback after each show. And 2015 will see “Man’s Dominion” take to the road and be performed in Toronto, Chicago, Orlando and New York City.
