LOS ANGELES (May 12, 2014) – Actress COURTNEY CUNNINGHAM will be clowning around once again performing her highly-acclaimed, award-winning solo show, “Poofy du Vey in ‘BURDEN OF POOF,” as part of the Hollywood Fringe Festival on June 14, 21 and 28, 2014 at the Schkapf Theater.

The adult-themed, 60-minute original clown show, “Poofy du Vey in ‘BURDEN OF POOF,” isn’t your typical white-faced circus act. Cunningham brings to life Poofy du Vey, a bundle of nerves with big dreams and even bigger fears. Poofy’s got a lot to say if she could only remember what that was. And, don’t be surprised to see Poofy blurt out profanities, flirt with the audience and even attempt a striptease.

Cunningham’s clown show has earned: Best Show at London Fringe, Best Bet at Orlando Fringe, Audience Choice Award at Ottawa Fringe, Funny Face Award at Winnipeg Fringe and a nominee for the Golden Nose Award for Best Clown at the New York Downtown Clown Festival.

Poofy du Vey was developed in the neo-vaudeville scene in Cunningham’s hometown of New York, making her first appearances in variety and vaudeville nights throughout Manhattan. Her physical comedy and clowning have drawn comparisons to legends Gilda Radner, Lucille Ball and Carol Burnett. Cunningham learned her clown techniques from some of the best in the business, including the renowned Sue Morrison (Clown Through Mask), Ricardo Pucetti (Lume Theatre Company, Brazil) and Moshe Cohen (Clowns Without Borders). She earned a degree in Classical Acting from Richmond University in London and is a graduate of the Dell ’Arte International School of Physical Theatre in California.

Cunningham has been earning praise for her work on-camera as well, including winning “Best Actress in a Drama” at the 2009 Albuquerque 48 Hour Film Festival. She was included in Backstage Magazine’s “Casting Standouts of 2010” and recently made her network television debut on an episode of the CBS hit-series “Criminal Minds.” In addition, she appeared in a supporting role opposite John Hawkes in indie film “Low Down,” which premiered at the 2014 Sundance Film Festival. Cunningham has also put her skills to work behind the camera, making her directorial debut with “The Bed Bug Thing,” which was an official selection of 7 U.S. film festivals and won a variety of awards including “Best Romantic Comedy” at the Atlanta Shortsfest. Last fall, Cunningham directed and starred in the 6-episode comedy web series, “Act-Anon,” which screened at the 7-Waves Shorts-n-Stuff Film Festival.
