(Los Angeles) — Sewer Socialist Productions is proud to present the world premiere of Paul Hoan Zeidler’s WOOF-WOOF, a searing, brutal and redemptive drama about the love of violence and the joy of killing. What would you do if a childhood friend you hadn’t seen in 8 years suddenly showed up at your door … if you knew he’d joined the Army and been sent to Iraq?

WOOF-WOOF is produced by Charles Pacello, directed by it’s author, Paul Hoan Zeidler, and stars Jay Seals, Brett Donaldson and Devin Skrade.

About WOOF-WOOF

Jimmy, an Iraq war vet grappling with a traumatic brain injury and PTSD, is discharged from a Warrior Transition Unit at a U.S. Army hospital in Washington, D.C., on a cold winter day. Instead of returning to his family in Philadelphia, he hitchhikes to New York and searches out his childhood friend. Chuck is surprised by his visit—he hasn’t seen Jimmy in 8 years—but when he learns it’s his first day out of the Army he convinces his roommate Brandon to bring him along on a wild night of clubbing. When a long forgotten, brutally violent incident involving Chuck and Jimmy is revealed, conflicts escalate before the three can get out the door.

Sewer Socialist Productions

Sewer Socialist Productions was founded in the belief that a new play needs to do at least one of the following: Tell a story no one has ever heard. Show the audience a scene they have never experienced. Dramatize characters or relationships they aren’t overly familiar with. Or explore conflicts and themes the audience has never or rarely considered. The company casts a wary eye on the conventional and always seeks to find “the new.”

WOOF-WOOF is the fifth production mounted by the Sewer Socialists. Their previous plays include: TIME’S SCREAM AND HURRY—which had two Los Angeles productions before a successful run at the 2009 New York International Fringe Festival—ACTS OF POSSESSION (2011 Hollywood Fringe) and GLENNIE & MAPLE BREAK UP (2012 Hollywood Fringe).

Biographies

Paul Hoan Zeidler (writer, director) Paul moved to Los Angeles to attend graduate school at the University of Southern California where he studied with Hubert Selby, Jr. (LAST EXIT TO BROOKLYN), John Rechy (CITY OF NIGHT), Paul Zindel (THE EFFECT OF GAMMA RAYS ON MAN-IN-THE-MOON MARIGOLDS), and Jerome Lawrence (INHERIT THE WIND) who taught him Eleventh Commandment: “Thou shalt not commit television on a theater stage.” It’s something he’s taken to heart ever since. Paul directed his play, TIME’S SCREAM AND HURRY, in two Los Angeles productions before taking it to the 2009 New York International Fringe Festival for a successful run at the Cherry Lane Theatre. Another full-length play, NUDENAKED, was honored in March, 2011, at the Stanley Drama Awards and was a 2009 Eugene O’Neill National Playwrights Conference Semi-Finalist. L.A. stagings of his work include: ACTS OF POSSESSION and GLENNIE & MAPLE BREAK UP (both Hollywood Fringe), “The Enchanter Disappears” with the Jerome Lawrence Quintet, and “Your Mind Breathes Water” with the Elephant Theater Company. THE MOON IS A STONE THAT WENT INSANE had a staged reading last fall at the Elephant. He’s currently working on two independent films scripts and a play about the Group Theatre. Paul is the founder and Artistic Director of Sewer Socialist Productions.

Charles Pacello (Producer) Born in Denver, CO, a graduate of the United States Air Force Academy, Charlie studied at the Stella Adler Academy of Acting in Los Angeles and attended the Midsummer in Oxford program, a summer-long Shakespeare intensive workshop at Oxford, England.  Los Angeles theatre credits: GELNNIE & MAPLE BREAK UP; ACTS OF POSSESSION; WAITING FOR GODOT (Pozzo); TIME’S SCREAM AND HURRY (L.A. and New York Fringe); ONE FELL SWOOP; IN ARABIA, WE’D ALL BE KINGS; HAMLET; WHAT THE BUTLER SAW; BETRAYAL; THE BEAR.  Film credits: BLIND MAN’S CURSE, PROM QUEEN: THE HOMECOMING; SEPARATED; CHILD INVISIBLE; PROJECT AMERICA; SAM HAS SEVEN FRIENDS (Emmy nominated) and PROM QUEEN (Emmy nominated). Charlie is the vice-president and CFO of Sewer Socialist Productions.

Jay Seals (Chuck) is a born and raised New Jersey boy.  He currently recurs on the critically acclaimed AMC hit drama MAD MEN.  Jay also recurred on NBC’s AWAKE, ABC’s REVENGE and was a regular on Oscar winner Stephen Gaghan’s NBC pilot METRO.  Seals will next be seen in the Lionsgate comedy feature MY MAN IS A LOSER starring John Stamos and Michael Rapaport, opening in theaters this July.  Jay Seals received the 2013 Garden State Film Festival’s Robert Pastorelli Rising Star Award. And he’s just wrapped the lead role in the independent comedy feature THE BEST THANKSGIVING EVER due out this fall. His previous stage credits include TRACERS at the Elephant Theater.

Brett Donaldson (Jimmy) is a recent graduate of the UCLA School of Theater, Film, and Television’s acting and directing programs.  He’s originally from Houston, Texas where he worked in local theater productions of AUNTIE MAME (Patrick Dennis), WINNIE THE POOH (Christopher Robin), and THE MIRACLE WORKER (James Keller). At UCLA, he appeared in ANGELS IN AMERICA (Louis Ironson) and 4:48 PSYCHOSIS (Lead).  Since graduation, Brett made his professional debut as Seth Numrich’s alternate in SLIPPING (Eli) and since then has starred in WHAT KIND OF GOD? (Aaron) at the Lillian Theatre and MIKE AND SETH (Seth) with Rising Phoenix Rep.  He would like to thank Paul and Charlie for the opportunity to help tell this story.

Devin Skrade (Brandon) Born in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, Devin moved to the West Coast in 2001 on a soccer scholarship to Santa Clara University. At SCU, he began to explore his passion for acting and writing, culminating with a degree in English and the lead role in the University’s production of DEAD MAN WALKING. After moving to Los Angeles to further pursue a career in the entertainment industry, Devin found his first notable role as a lead in the play TRACERS alongside Jay Seals at the Elephant Theatre. Over the course of his career, Devin has appeared in print, television, and film as a writer, actor, and model, culminating with his performance on AMC’s MAD MEN. He is ecstatic to be on stage again with long time partner in crime, Jay Seals, and is honored to get a chance to work with Brett, Charlie, and fellow Milwaukee native, Paul Hoan Zeidler.
