Hollywood Fringe Festival welcomes author, artist, wizard, c. huilo c. and Teatro Jaguar Luna to Hollywood, California. Presenting the Southern California premier of theatrical adaptations of the book series, Tales of a Jaguar Magician, huilo invites in a magical twist to the “media capital of the world’s” underground, otherworldly bohemian art scene. Sparkling masks, mesmerizing video, fabulous costumes, strikingly colorful murals swirl wonderfully onstage and blend together forming an eye-catching reality. This dramatic presentation breaks through the mundane with an intriguingly phantasmagoric experience.
Described as psychedelic theatre, multidimensional and hypnotic, Teatro Jaguar Luna weaves a timely spell with its well-crafted, kaleidoscope of color and movement. Jester, mythmaker, huilo marvavilla stuns the audience with a cornucopia of noble and mercurial wisdom. Like an eerie dream, from the depths of a quasi-carnival they emerge: exotic articulated jaguar beings, spider marionettes, hat tricks; all inspire the viewer to become involved with dreaming a new world into being. Everyone is encouraged to absorb the mystifying landscape as a bizarre initiation ritual unfolds and reveals an entirely new reality of time and space.
Huilo conjures a holographic sphere of intention. Some may offer that it hints of the Popul Vuh, where mystic overtones glean from mysterious ancient ceremonies. The core purpose of this theater is to expose how thoughts, words, every action contribute to the creation of a larger dreamscape.
A handful of characters glide, fly, ooze, and twirl across the stage, fusing sensations so that one feels like they are in an enchanted dream. For a moment there is a glimpse into the possibilities that lie in between what is imagined, idealized or false. Flowing from the immensely colorful book illustrations, Loquatia -Misstress of Mistiries, Thelema –Madame of Consequencia, Ocelotl –Jaguar Advisor, Zuvuyana – Grandmother Spider are just a few who weave a vivid, fun, pertinent tale together. They share lustrously beautiful morsels about the path of jaguar wizardry and the unification of consciousness. As the keeper of masques Wizard Weezel proclaims, “every role we take guides us closer to the essence of the soul’s journey – to become realigned with the godself”.
A wildly memorable experience, beyond didactic prose or drab monologues, c. huilo c. and Teatro Jaguar Luna communicate an evocative, rich experience, taking the risk to encourage even the most timid to travel outside the normal paradigm and reconsider what is deemed to be a finite existence. Indeed, if there ever was a living fairytale wizard, c. huilo c. invokes the sensation that, if only for a few nights, one can travel alongside butterflies, hummingbirds and the like beyond the veil of illusion.

Background: From the first three installations of a five-part series, Tales of a Jaguar Magician, Teatro Jaguar Luna presents excerpts of the books/tomes, Flight of the Jaguar Magician –The Initiation, Marriage of the Moon & Jaguar –The Mirrors and The Lattice. The books share tales from the journey of a jaguar magician, Lolaboy. The young magician travels alongside several teachers whom guide the heshe (term for multiple gender), on an adventurer’s quest. Encountering trials, each comes with a unique gift that Lolaboy may use to awaken other jaguar magicians on the ailing Planet of Great Consciousness. Carefully and colorfully illustrated, the series immediately capture the qualities of gilded medieval tomes.
Teatro Jaguar Luna has been presenting adaptations and dream theatre for almost 2 decades. Using from one to thirteen actors, the theatre has appeared at festivals, cafes, art warehouse districts and other venues.
c. huilo c. has inspired audiences since 1996 with installation and performance art around the globe. Mythmaker, jester, ancient queer shaman, the artist creates illusions that have received notable response.
