Trip Kennedy

On March 16th, 2017 I was admitted to Cedars Sinai as a John Doe Dead On Arrival. I died as a direct result of being chronically Homeless and alone. I was released the next day. I begged them to not release me, but they did.

On March 24th, 2017 I was admitted to Cedars Sinai as John Doe, Dead on Arrival.
I hate being right!

I had been living on the Streets of Los Angeles for over three and a half years. My neck had been broken. A disc was chipped interfering with blood flow causing me to be hospitalized 100 times in three and a half years. Each time — released with nowhere to go.

On March 27th, 2016 Cedars Sinai released me. But this time they had to send me somewhere. It would look really bad for me to show up dead a third time.

Cedar’s had lost my clothes. They found a pair of Oversized Woman’s Culottes (White), Flip-Flops, and a Hoodie.

They had nowhere else to send me but the Midnight Mission. Where the assault had happened only weeks before.

They gave me 4 bus tokens.

There I stood, at 4 AM in a pair of ill-fitting, Culottes, Flip-Flops and a Hoodie, with no friends, no family, no ID, no Teeth, no glasses, no contacts, no possessions at all, waiting for a bus to take me back to the place that had literally…LITERALLY resulted in my death - TWICE!!!-

Because…I am homeless.

On March 27th, 2018 I stood in front of a packed House at the Longest running Cabaret Venue in America where I have been performing for Months. Where I told this story, and sang my face off.

In a previous life time…many breakdowns ago—-as it turns out I was a Broadway Chorus-boy, who got into The most prestigious Musical Theatre Writing Workhop (The BMI Lehmen Engel Musical Theatre Workshop for Composers and Lyricists) Ever!!!—-where I wrote musicals…a long time ago.

Then Life happened.
The thing you need to know about life is…it’s out to kill you.

RETURN TRIP” : how I spent the first year since the second time I died…

with an original Broadway Book, Lyrics and Score—by ME!
