The casting was spot on. Great performances – total commitment from the actors. The staging was amazing for a Fringe show – one of the widest for a 99-seat theatre you would find anywhere – 3 scene set ups at one time. The music between scenes really sets the mood. The story of a father, intimately connected to the dictator, and his two sons, who love their father but hate the dictator, is revealed slowly – layer by layer – ultimately exposing a bitter truth. A great 2 hours in the theatre. Go see it!
What I didn't like
Some of the dialogue was too soft for me to hear even in the front row.
My overall impression
This drama drew me into a pivotal point of world history that I knew nothing about: the twilight of “El Jefe” – the dictator that ruled the Dominican Republic for over 30 years. I found it fascinating and compelling. To quote Wikipedia, his rule “is considered one of the bloodiest and most corrupt regimes in the Western hemisphere.”
