What I liked

I liked how despite it was a simple play, (meaning minimal set design, small cast) it had a plethora of issues to discuss after watching this trio and their morbidly odd situation. The story and the actors kept the audience guessing what would happen next as well as which character proved their point best. Each character was believable and likable which made the conflict between them that much better.

What I didn't like

The only possible thing I can think of is it distracted me that Alice put her purse/belongings on and off the floor, but that’s maybe because I would never do that, I’d throw it on a chair or a coat hanger, a door knob or something but I understand this play was meant to have minimal props. Other than that, I wouldn’t change a thing!

My overall impression

“The Box” was a fun, but dark complex comedy that had a Hitchcock feel to it. It was extremely well written and directed. The actors were all very believable. Alice was able to hit every emotion possible known to man and transitioned realistically and seamlessly. Stephen did an excellent job showing his exasperation in the situation and his sincere love for Alice. Cal was intimidating but balanced that well with a soft side expressing concern for his daughter in his own way.
