There’s a frantic nature to it that is restrained by the settling presence of a not-so-humble David Attenborough who guides you through. Musical numbers, broad comedy, and yes, even cerebral moments. They take their knowledge of bug facts and simply take it to unique places. There are moments of inspired lunacy (a Thespian spider, termite nurse, gangster wasps) that would make any fan of Monty Python sit up and cheer, and silliness (watch out for that pile of dung!)
Each actor is having a blast and there’s not a weak link in the bunch.
What I didn't like
Um, maybe that some sketches were not as brilliant as others? But that’s going to be every sketch show. The fact there are brilliant sketches at all (and multiple ones at that) is a coup.
My overall impression
HILARIOUS, SMART, IRREVERENT — FUN!
There’s so much that could go sideways with sketch shows from the uneven nature of hit-or-miss sketches, but this had none of that. The actors are all great individually and as a team coupled with a script that works. If you want to smile for an hour at Fringe, go see Bugs!
