I love that Mélia consistently played multiple roles and did not switch into a narrative “then this happened” style of storytelling. As an actor, I enjoyed watching her skillfully shift into and out of each character while keeping the story fluid. I particularly enjoyed the comedic writing displayed through Mélia’s lyricism. She demonstrated a keen understanding of structure and timing. I believe this piece would translate to a TV series SO WELL (hello Hulu). Excited to see what Mélia brings to the table next.
What I didn't like
If Mélia brings this piece back, I would love to see props utilized in the show. There are props implied throughout, and I think seeing them would amplify the audience’s experience when diving into Mélia’s world head first.
My overall impression
Mélia blends humor, heart, and Tupac beautifully in this coming-of-age story fit for both the stage and TV.
