What I liked

From a glittered purple beard to bedazzled SAT studies, this show dazzles the audience thanks to the precise production design by Erica Palay’s keen eye. The entire cast seizes the era with strong, “bodacious” performances directed by Jim Blanchette. The audience takes the ride with laughter at the dynamic comedic timing of characters Synergy, mystically (really) played by Veronica Carey Matthews and the ditzy expertise of Patrick Censoplano as Rio, whose facial expression and wondering eyes bring the audience in tandem journey. JEM/Jerrica’s strong performance by Danielle Crook boggles the mind with multiple hysterical and ludicrous costume change situations. The strong vocal ensemble’s harmonies fill the theatre with the magic of what makes a musical a musical. The vocal agility of Omari Miller as Howard Sands and Cassie Lujan as Kimber heighten the experience. One flies into the absurdity on the wings of musical and acting talent.

What I didn't like

The acoustics of the space could use some attention as with only one sweet spot and no mics, the talents of the cast hit some auditory hiccups.

My overall impression

TRULY OUTRAGEOUS is a wacky, fun, and heartfelt, absurd musical produced and written by Brandie June that captures the audience from opening to closing number with distinctly ‘rad’ music by Rebecca McGlynn
