What I liked
I really enjoyed the script and how it poked fun at the original show, which I watched a couple of episodes of before seeing this. Considering the limitations of doing a fringe show, putting on a full 90 minute musical was quite the accomplishment. The whole cast was good. Stand outs in this performance were Danielle Crook who was perfectly cast in the lead role as Jem, Omari Miller (Howard Sands), Patrick Censoplano (Rio), Veronica Carey Matthews (Synergy) and Shira Englender (Ashley).
What I didn't like
Overall it was very good. There were a couple of moments where I think they lost track of who was supposed to say what when, but they were few and far between. A couple of minor lighting issues that were probably just one off mistakes. The one technical note I would make is that when it came to the musical portions, often times the background tracks were so loud it was challenging to hear the singing. The book/lyrics are very clever and a lot got drowned out. This was also true of the finale song where because the cast were taking their bows while other cast members were singing, the applause of the audience drowned out whatever the singers were singing. Maybe consider restructuring the song/blocking in a future incarnation?
My overall impression
Very, very funny. It was sassy and satirical. Great concept, great script, and some great casting choices. Very good for a fringe show and can see this having a bright future with some work-shopping. Absolutely worth seeing if you get a chance.
