I really liked how “Annie is Fancy” wasn’t your typical one person Fringe show. The entire experience was like a fever dream in the best way, especially with the juxtaposition and reinterpretation of Annie (1982) as a backdrop. Scenes from the iconic film fuse with pop tunes and dynamic multimedia projections to create a celebratory queer fantasia!
What I didn't like
I quite liked how the show was more “vibes” than plot, but I could see how some audiences might not understand the appeal. This is a choice that comes down to how the entire piece is structured, though, so I wouldn’t change it!
My overall impression
I loved this wonderfully weird, joyous, camp-tastic show! Morgan is such a dynamic performer and the melding of multimedia, music, and costumes made for a delightfully interpretative piece. Any show that combines Reba McEntire, Carol Burnett, Tina Turner, and Ann Reinking with Morgan’s fabulous sense of style and talent is a must-see!
