Ariel’s message and perspective is necessary and unique. He delivers this message hilariously and effectively. I wished that his show was longer because there was never a time that I was not entertained.
What I didn't like
I have already seen his one man show on YouTube before coming to this show. Although I am glad that Ariel had the wonderful opportunity to make his one man show bigger with more resources, I wish he had updated his jokes and references in this show. For example, one of his sound bites was of a news reporter talking about Roe v. Wade being overturned. Maybe instead, Ariel could have replaced that sound bite with a news reporter talking about the 6-week abortion ban in Florida. This would show the how the ruling has affected abortion rights in our current political climate.
My overall impression
Ariel is a very talented person. He brings humor into serious subjects and puts his heart and soul into his performances. If you’re just looking for a standup special, go to some other show, because Empathy Party is more than that. It is a brave commentary on the negative effects of American individualism. It is the necessary call to action for community and empathy that we all need to hear.
