Fierce: Interventions

Clever takes on the theme of Interventions - those successful, those failed, and those aborted. A nod to Ashley McGee for serving double duty and lending his comic spark to the first two pieces. And kudos to Andrew Boyle for his one-man portrayal in the provocative third piece, which begs the question: should one feel guilty for not intervening, with dire consequences, or would intervention have been interfering with fate, resulting in different, equally dire consequences? A stunning trio, all so well written, directed and acted. Bananas is a witty farce with three great talents that bounce off each other in perfect timing. End of the Line is a breath of fresh air bring classic British style black comedy to the stage with a duo that light up the stage. Finally, Clouds Rest is a truly touching piece of writing and acting that brings a rare tenderness to a monologue in todays stage. ... full review

Interventions for me comprised two I loved and one which was not my thing. "Banana Intervention" by Jeremy Kehoe was witty and lively, with sprightly performances by Sean Welch, Ashley McGee and Will Blagrove arguing over Blagrove's comic obsession with all things banana. Welch brings a sardonic, bordering on manic neurotic approach to the role of Matt, which is intriguing and funny. McGee is full of energy and multi-talented, witness his work in the second piece, "The End of The Line" by Mona Deutsch Miller. "The End of the Line" is a two character play set in a British train, wherein McGee shares his coach with the versatile Ann Ryerson in an amusing, sometimes suspenseful romp about suicide, murder and who knows what? Loved all three plays. Very different from each other which made for an entertaining evening...went from funny to thoughtful to sad. Banana Intervention had very witty dialogue with some funny twists and turns. Strangers on a Train had some surprises and the actors were great. Clouds Rest was a heartfelt one man show. Fierce Backbone has it going on! Kudos to all writers and actors! ... full review
