What I liked

Bisschop toes the line between humor and drama in a compelling 90 minutes – there are times I was laughing out loud while misty-eyed other times. I liked learning about Mike Royko’s life through his excellent columns that Bisschop uses to tell the story. His characters are clearly defined and a joy to watch.

What I didn't like

I caught the very first preview, but a few of the technical pieces felt like they needed to tweak to get the timing right.

My overall impression

Mitchell Biscchop is a tour-de-force in this one-man show about newspaper columnist, Mike Royko. Poignant and heartfelt, his storytelling keeps you wanting more and while the story happened decades ago, it feels very current. Not only is the show entertaining, it also gives great historical context to the columns that Bisschop uses as the throughline of the piece, weaving multiple columns together effortlessly and with a deft stroke of humanity throughout.
