Anika does a tremendous job acting each of these very different characters with compassion, tact, and delightful humor. She’s a talented player, and clearly has some quality training. Despite major physical and vocal choices, I was never distracted by them, and always pulled into what each character was gifting the audience — a testament to Anika’s riveting acting and skillful writing. Really thoughtful costumes and props for each character too. Specific, authentic physicalities for all of them. Bravo!
What I didn't like
Hmmm I wish I could offer more helpful criticism other than to find something to change about the transitions. Perhaps extending the monologue of a character while she is changing until she is more than 50% changed into the other character, and having them briefly interact while Anika becomes that other character? Because of the blackouts, it did feel more like a series of (beautifully written and acted) vignettes rather than a cogent show with momentum.
My overall impression
Anika showcases her impressive character acting skills and writing ability in this touching, funny, and memorable portrayal of the souls to be found in an inpatient psych facility.
