What I liked

I appreciated Brett’s sincerity in exploring both the highs and lows of their experiences over the years. In particular, I loved hearing the conversations between their mom and them discussing everything from identity to a tumor diagnosis. It’s rare that we can hear such a candid retelling of difficult experiences.

What I didn't like

Love the conversational tone of the entire piece! It really feels like we’re listening to your brain in real time. I think the tone works but would be supported even more if some of the thoughts could be linked together more easily. At moment I found it hard to keep up with what subject or idea was being discussed because of the fast pace.

My overall impression

A perfect summary of the queer-Gen-Z mental spiral many of us have been experiencing over the last several years. A combination of witty, heartwarming, and hilarious, HOT STUFF plunges into anxieties we all experience but are sometimes too afraid to name. From global trauma, such as climate change, to personal struggles like first serious relationships, Brett leaves nothing unexplored in this solo show. The perfect show if you’re looking for something both sincere and humorous.
