I thought the show started off very strong and ended on target. Familiar with Ikigai, I thought the first actress was impassioned telling how she finds her conviction to stick to her path through dance. Her growth over the short act was visible. I went from “leave this poor soul alone” to “this woman stands in her own power!”
The ending felt like a fireside chat, exploring the concept as an impromptu lecture. The cast felt organic during this act.
What I didn't like
I thought the Comedian performance did not need to mention a castmate in a derogatory way when introducing her as the following act. I also felt that the Video of the man’s monologue was both inconsistent with the rest of the show and way off-base with the concept of Ikigai. The lighting was distracting at times as well.
My overall impression
Overall I feel this show had some very promising moments, especially taking on an ambitious concept of Ikigai, personalized by each performer.
