Saba draws you in with her expressiveness and subtle humor, and keeps you enraptured as she paints an emotional journey on the canvas of the stage. It’s as if we’re experiencing the most seminal moments of her life right there with her. She’s fearless, raw, and poetic.
What I didn't like
One of the best parts is her hilarious physical and vocal characterization of the hypnotherapist — I would love to see other characters in her story come alive in this way. The show has good energy and a consistent pace, but I wonder if changing up the pace — a little more rapid-fire here, before the quiet introspection there — would make it come alive even more.
My overall impression
A dynamic one-woman show in which Saba commands the space, invites you inside the mind of an artist on the run from her past, and rewards with beautiful language, heartbreak, laughter, and learning to be honest with yourself.
