What I liked
I really enjoyed the structure of the show. It was pretty obviously retro-fitted to be a full show feom a bunch of aketches but the scenes are all beought together with these transition monologues in an “auditon” spotlight. Those moments had me laughing and caring a little bit more about the characters. Nice theatricality. Also… can’t find my Playbill to find the exact name but DOCTOR KRUPKE stole the show!! So hilarious.
What I didn't like
At times the balance between naturalism and “musical”-ism doesnt work. Either go full muwical theatre acting or be natural but a lot of the show was just saying things loudly to guide the audience to laughter. There is sort of a “knowing” that you can see in the actors. They know that its funny. They know that people in the audience are theatre savvy so theyll get the references. And they know that they had a folloing last year in Serial Killers so they sort of ride that expectation of the audience being with them every step of the way and honestly i just wasnt.
At the end of the day its a fun Fringe Fest show thay everyone should go enjoy. Will it change your life? No. Will you laugh? Probably. And sometimes thats all theatre needs to be.
