What I liked

The sketch “Polite Racism” was by far the strongest, handled expertly by William Gabriel Grier and Chris Valenti. It brought up a great many cringeworthy but authentic chestnuts I’ve heard actual white people use when they’re attempting to convince someone they’re not racist. But it never felt malicious or exploitative in any way. In fact, throughout the course of the performance a good laugh was never far away. “Fantasy Football” was another standout. I was discussing it with my friends after the show and we all had different impressions of what it meant.

What I didn't like

I had a generally positive experience. The only thing was I didn’t understand how EVERY sketch stemmed from the conceit of the title. The “Polite Racism” sketch was the one that seemed to truly encapsulate a straight white man trying desperately to “woke” and I actually would love to follow that character through a series of conversations with other people who are different from him in some undeniable way, playing with tonal shifts and identity in a similarly humorous way. “Polite Racism” embodied a truly teachable moment. Maybe another scene could depict him having a frank conversation with a woman he met online, or even someone much younger or older than him, etc.

My overall impression

5 sketches. Lots of laughs.
