There’s great songwriting talent and musicianship on display (an album would be an appropriate supplement), and we can’t help but be sympathetic to the tough situation Brian describes. Musical/storytelling genre choice used to highlight the narrative in novel or darkly humorous ways. Very compelling and touching first fifteen minutes or so.
What I didn't like
After the opening, the mood plunges into bitterness and never recovers. Certain moments seem dishonest or contrived. The performer violates his compact with the audience by photographing us several times without our consent.
My overall impression
This musical self-documentary shows great talent and pulls at our heartstrings, but has issues with tone and its treatment of the audience.
