Jim Hanna shines both as writer and actor, as the script moves swiftly to establish all three candidates and their outlandish world views. Everyone on this stage is top notch, and carries their performances excellently, all while maintaining the mystique and tension that was palpable from the beginning but never explained until the end.
What I didn't like
Setting a full scale production might cure this, but I wanted to see more supernatural. I want to know more about the gazebo, what the thing looks like, how it works. These aren’t questions that need answers, but I am curious.
What lengths have these people gone to stay nice and kind? It’s been 3 years, how have their lives changed day to day?
I’m not sure we need the first scene, though it is cute. Get right into the action, we can pick up on who Amber is later.
My overall impression
Dark, funny, and only a slightly embellished version of our current political climate, Mayor’s Debate takes the voices we are too familiar with today and brings them to their insane logical conclusions, giving us a release of catharsis while asking the question “why can’t we all just be nice to each other?”
