What I liked

A script based in historic facts with such accuracy. Every cast member, even the musicians, are part of the capoeira comunity. I was impressed how the script was able to highlight all the important historic points in a limited time. I loved the Exu trio, as a representation of an African god, showing a different kind of society where the spiritual practice is part of the daily routine. Also, the costume design was almost perfect (perfection doesn’t exist!)

What I didn't like

Nothing to add.

My overall impression

It’s a mindblowing show! One of a kind. A unique show only possible due to the maturity of the Capoeira Batuque community in LA and the diversity of talents. I’m glad that I moved from Alagoas (the Brazilian state where Palmares is located) to LA just in time to see this play. There is no other place in the world where it would be possible to recreate this play with the quality and talent of this cast. Every capoeirista should watch this show to understand what capoeira truly is, and how it came from Black freedom struggles.

Se você é do Brasil, é muito importante assistir esta peça para conhecer parte da nossa história verdadeira.
