Like taking a glance at an alien culture, this is a perfectly rendered piece of ancient Roman theatre. I haven't ever seen quite this mix of heightened-language storytelling and dance with the eyes of these ancient characters peering out through the stylized masks. See how much of Shakespeare was actually pulled from these words, the most obvious being passages that wound up in Macbeth. It could have ended up almost farcical, very A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum. Instead it comes across as what Game of Thrones... full review
