What I liked
Writer/Composer Zachery Bernstein has created a world where we really root for every player. John Bobek as the nerdy but affable Arthur Edgley is a true every-man we can relate to despite his low expectations. Heather Roberts gives heart to the unhappy but rich Mabel Bellcoat. Dagney Kerr in multiple roles is a true standout. She brings such verve to every move. Matthew Bohrer expertly rounds out the ensemble in multiple roles. Direction by Guy Picot and choreography by Sarah Kruger truly bring out every sublime flavor of this comedic gem. The songs played by the ultra cool onstage band are inventive, clever, easy to understand and will leave you humming.
What I didn't like
Every element of Disasteroid works perfectly. It nicely fits the small theatre space and length of time of an hour long musical, but I could see it expanding beyond the perameters of the Fringe to a bigger production because at its heart it is an imaginative tale we can all relate to.
My overall impression
Disasteroid is a fun, imaginative “what if” musical exploring what an unlikely couple would do if they believed the world was going to end.
