April 04, 2024What I liked
1v1 lol Authentic portrayal: The play felt genuine and raw, offering a unique perspective on issues often overlooked or stigmatized.
Diverse cast and crew: The inclusion of a 100% BIPOC cast and crew, including LGBTQIA+ individuals, added depth and authenticity to the storytelling.
Fearless storytelling: The playwright fearlessly delved into taboo subjects, challenging stereotypes and norms surrounding women’s sexuality and relationships.
Engaging pre-show music: The addition of original pre-show music by Joy Jan Jones enhanced the overall experience, setting the tone for the performance.
What I didn't like
Cohesion in narrative: While the play covered a wide range of topics, at times it felt like there were too many subplots competing for attention. Streamlining the narrative could improve clarity and focus.
Character development: Some characters felt underdeveloped or stereotypical. Investing more time in fleshing out their backgrounds and motivations could add depth to the story.
Pacing: Certain scenes felt rushed, while others dragged on, impacting the overall pacing of the play. Balancing the pacing throughout the production could enhance the audience’s engagement.
Production quality: Depending on the resources available, improvements in production quality such as set design, lighting, and sound could elevate the audience’s experience and immersion in the story.
My overall impression
The play tackled topics like reproductive health, dating in the modern world, and societal expectations with humor, vulnerability, and authenticity.
