Best of INK presents CHARLIE MOOSE MAKES HIS MOVE

This is a fast-paced, multi-dimensional character study that brilliantly examines the ever-changing relationship between fantasy and reality, sanity and "insanity," and the similar needs we have at all ages for human connection--and how we screw that up. My friend and I were talking it about it long after the show ended, and I can still think of parts we didn't touch on. I can absolutely see why this show won Inkfest, and I hope it continues to move forward after Fringe. It was so clever and absorbing, I found myself wishing I were in it!... full review

This is one of the best shows I've seen so far at the Fringe, everything about it is so original and interesting. This play was able to implore so much of what's great about experimental/intimate theatre and put it into one piece and then put it's own effervescent charm on top of it all. There were many moments in that play that made me feel really emotional and caring so deeply about the characters, I wanted them all to succeed so badly, which to me is a testament of how good the play does of allowing you to get to know the characters and empathize with them. There's nothing like a twisted dark comedy to start my fringe festival experience. From the start, the play takes you in its strange universe and introduces you to fascinating characters who bounce off each other in entertaining ways. I was laughing throughout the show, but still picked up on a melancholic strain through the work that really anchored it and paid off in a big way at the end. Highly recommended! ... full review

Incredible. I was blown away. The script is brilliant. The acting is amazing. It was hilarious and heartbreaking. The writing is impressively smart and funny, by far the best I have seen this year. I felt for these people, even when they were being awful to each other. A great sense of empathy balances the unhinged humor. If you have any sort of brain or feelings, if you are human, you cannot go wrong with this show.... full review

Jessica Jill Turner's play has got to be one of the best I have seen in years. "Charlie Moose Makes His Move" is both hilarious and heartbreaking at the same time. One of the many themes of the human condition that it explores is the everlasting and often painful longing for love we all experience, the incredible lengths we go to to find it, and the loneliness and hopelessness (and sometimes the complete breakdown of our psyche) we experience when we cannot. This, interlaced with themes of narcissism, the loss of innocence and the power of human imagination is dealt with such raw honesty and at the same time piercing wit and humor that you will be left both devastated and amused all at once. A delicious surrealist romp, with a tremendous ensemble. I was immediately engrossed and remained transfixed and entertained the entire time. I didn't know anything about the show, except that it was "good," and I'm glad I didn't-- there's really no way to be ready for this play, as it's unlike anything I've recently seen... though I would perhaps venture that it's along the lines of a David Ives, Betty's Summer Vacation line of bizarre hilarity (only I like it way more than that show, because this one has more of an emotional depth to its characters in spite of all the absurdity.) Very funny, very dark, and definitely not the usual Aristotelian fare.... full review
