A Little Hamlet is briskly paced and funny. The conceit of presenting a backer’s audition for Hamlet is an excellent framing device ripe for skewering modern entertainments shaped by focus groups. At the same time, the major arc of the story is summarized along with snippets of the more famous chunks of Shakespeare’s text.
What I didn't like
The show could have been a little more sure-footed. Things seem to lose focus from time to time during the satirical “play-about-the-play” sections. But, these did not last long and the show moves pretty well in spite of them.
My overall impression
Shakespeare fans and the uninitiated alike will enjoy this lightning-fast re-telling.
