Surprise is abundant in “COWBOY MOUTH,” Smith and Shepard’s passionate one-act play. Holed up in her motel room, Cavale takes Slim, a husband and a father, hostage. Surviving only on music, their reveries, and special order food, the two would-be rock stars fall in love and journey together into a lyrical no man’s land where they test their love and the power dynamics between captor and captive.
Viewed as a thinly disguised but deeply personal autobiography, “COWBOY MOUTH” offers an animalistic, Rock n’ Roll glimpse into Sam Shepard’s family life and romantic affair with Patti Smith.
